If I have been a little bit AWOL recently it’s b If I have been a little bit AWOL recently it’s because I’m working on a cool project that’s demanding a fair bit of attention.I have ideas for themed posts and waiting for the right moment to share them — which may be soon! But that’s not the project. That’s what I did while procrastinating the project.I’ve been talking about writing one book or another since the days of AOL.One of those books is taking a step closer to reality right now as I send it to @julialeebarclayauthor, an editor friend who’s helping me wrap my head around what I’ve got, what I need, what has to go — and what should be part of the proposal I’ll send to agents and publishers.I’m trying not to get too far ahead of myself, trying to stay in the writing (but really the editing now.) It’s important to stay more in the work than the talking about the work. But I wanted to give you a hint of what’s coming — and explain why I’ve been posting here less. (Though I’ve still got lots of fun things in my stories!)I’ve written news articles and longer magazine pieces for years. I’ve even published chapters in books. That was my job for more than a decade before I began in medicine. But this thing is all me, at a much larger scale. It’s daunting — and easy to procrastinate. There’s always plenty of “real” work I’ve got to do: Caring for patients, running three businesses, and learning how to do better at all the things that work entails. But it is fun when the words grab me and force me to bring them to virtual paper. And I’m starting to feel hopeful that this project will eventually live outside of my head and in the world. So there’s my tease. Having a hard copy is still an unknowably long time off. But I think it’s going to become real. And soon you may start getting sneak peeks on Instagram and my blog. And that’s all I’m saying for now.And now you know. If I’m quiet, it hopefully means I’m getting it done.Keep your 🤞🏼 for me. When I’m done, I think you’re going to like it.📸 @nataliekristeenphotography#OrnaIsAWriterToo #WritingWithOrna #FoodIsMedicine #FoodAsMedicine #FoodIsTheFirstMedicine #SGG2EA
Place, in the sense of landscape, is its own medic Place, in the sense of landscape, is its own medicine. Some folks are fine wherever they are. For others, bioregion matters.I am the latter, without a doubt a proud mosshead.I shot this last year driving home from the desert. While the desert is an amazing place, I cried when back in the wet(ter) zone.where is your place? What medicine does it give you?#DrivingWithOrna #MedicineOfPlace #ProudMosshead #NatureFix #NatureCures #BioregionalHerbalist #PNWLove #VitaminN
My love affair with Oregon grape continues.I’ My love affair with Oregon grape continues.I’m always so happy to see it, even on a city park next to the bathrooms. 😂It’s one of my very most favorite bioregional medicines, and it just tastes like home.Oregon grape is the state flower here, and it’s starting to think about blooming. I’m still happy to be in the cool-wet time of the year, but spring is coming.#WalkingWithOrna #LoveThePlantsYoureWith #BioregionalHerbalism, #PlantGeek #PlantMedicine #OregonGrape #HerbalistDoctor #OregonNaturopathicDoctor, #OregonNaturopathicMedicine #GardenMedicine #MedicineOfPlace #TasteOfHome #PlantGeek #PlantGeeking #PNWLove #PNWNativePlants#OptOutside #RadGirlsLife #VitaminN #PNWLiving

Trying to find the best mask to prevent COVID infe Trying to find the best mask to prevent COVID infection (and other respiratory viruses) — especially when most folks have abandoned theirs? I’ve got you.Prevention is a foundation to all systems of health. So masking up is good medicine, and even more important now that fewer people are doing it.People ask me about masks a lot, especially when they’re about to travel. So I made a video running through the evolution of masks during the pandemic, and which I recommend based on my own experience and that of my friends.Note that these all help for wildfire smoke, as well. The video is too long for IG, but you can find it on my blog at DrOrna.net or my DrOrna YouTube channel. Both are linked in my bio and my highlights.I hope you find it helpful!— Dr. OrnaPS Today the good folks at @peoplescdc are asking us to exhort our lawmakers to keep masks in healthcare. I strongly agree. Check their feed (and my stories) for details.#KeepMasksInHealthcare
